Namaskara! A warm Welcome to the Bangalore School of Music

‘Future Forward’ is our new vision. Having crossed the landmark, Odyssey 2012, our silver jubilee which was celebrated with over 46 musical events with close cultural partners and artistes from home, as well as from 14 countries world-wide, we now look forward towards strengthening our academic program, besides reaching out with innovative ideas to widen the ever growing circle of music lovers.

We are proud of our jewels, the students; the Faculty; most of who have grown with us; the Trustees & Advisory Board Members, past and present, our dedicated Staff, the Patrons & Friends of Music, who have all joined hands with us to enrich the cultural life of our city. We may not be rich in funds, but our blue chip assets are our well-wishers and friends. There is so much to be proud of and thankful for. Our associations with the ICCR, the Govt. of Karnataka, the Embassies, the High Commissions, the Alliance Francaise, the MMB-Goethe Institut, the US. Consulate, the British Council, the NCPA, Music Schools and Artistes in India and the world over are cherished by us.

I cannot help but compare our growth to that of a mustard seed, from tiny beginnings in my old bungalow, to a permanent home in the new building – the East West Center, which today facilitates 360+ students, the Orchestras – junior and chamber, the Choirs – Chorale & Children’s, the Young Maestros String Quartet, the Guitar and other Ensembles, the Keyboard Symphonia,  House Concerts & other cultural activities. We now await permission for the much needed fourth floor which will provide additional music studios to accommodate students on the waiting list.
Faculty and students have benefited from masterclasses with visiting musicians, collaborations and exchange programs with the Royal College of Music Stockholm, the Sur-Sangam Project of the MMB: Goethe Institut (India and Germany), and from  performing with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. This October we collaborate with the Winterthurer Symphoniker from Switzerland. Several faculty members have received specialized training in Institutions abroad.

It’s difficult to believe that our tiny Music School has organized 19 International multi-cultural Festivals – 13 East West Encounters, 3 week-long Indo-Swiss Festivals, a 2 week Festival of Poland, a Festival of Portugal & Goa, and Concerts commemmorating 100 years of the Nobel Prize, to mention a few. Several hundred Artistes from 32 countries worldwide have participated in these Festivals & Encounters with Indian counterparts since 1990. We also present 20-25 events in our Annual Concert Series.
The rest of our story is further recorded in the picture gallery. The outlook for western or world music appears good to me, as we connect and build musical bridges to bring people and countries closer together. We will continue our humble yet sincere endeavor and remain proud of the rich cultural heritage of our country.
